Hardwood Flooring Grade Swapping

Lumber is graded against natural defects knots, burls, etc. Now that the hardwood flooring industry is popular there is a lot of grade swapping going on. We DO NOT engage in this practice. Our lumber is graded in the raw before staining and topcoats are applied. The method used in many factories is to stain bark and upgrade lower grade lumber up to a higher, more expensive grade, therefore charging more money for a dark stained lower grade calling it top grade. Our stains are mixed to optimize clarity in the flooring. As these pieces come down the line, if our stains cover up the defect, we do not up grade it, we leave it in its respective raw grade, therefore giving the customer value for their money.

Our starting grade of hardwood flooring is the upper end of #2 common - that is as low as we go in grade. The $1.99 lie is you can get ¾" hardwood floors dirt-cheap. It just does not happen, the scam artists are out there. My family has been manufacturing hardwood floors for many years; we give you the best value for your money. If you believe you can get flooring of any quality for $1.99 or $.99, watch out for someone trying to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. A name for the $1.99 hardwood flooring here at Stone River Hardwoods is firewood. So if you are one of those people who are not easily fooled and are looking for an honest company who will give you good value, try us - we will not even accept payment until we deliver.
