Hardwood flooring - history

Hardwood Flooring dates back many hundreds of years. Obviously, our ancestors found out that the harder and denser the wood the longer it will last. In the United States it has been common practice to use white ash, white oak, red oak, and maple. These are all at the top of the list in hardness. Renewable forest products are essential to our industry, and our planet leaves young untouched timber. This is common practice in the Appalachian region and we at Stone River Hardwoods do all we can to encourage environmentally sound manufacturing procedures.

Random width flooring has become popular in recent years. It dates back to the days when hardwood flooring was made on the jobsite. The tongue and groove was planed by hand on a board with no preference to the width - just whatever it would make. Our 3", 4", 5" widths of hardwood flooring yields itself well to this look in wide plank flooring. From our wide variety of products from the standard 2 ¼" strip to our 3, 4, and 5" wide plank, we hope to have a flooring choice for you.
